The man slept beneath the bridge where the river whispered all night. Each morning, he folded his blanket with care, as if it were a bed in a house that still remembered him. People passed without looking, their footsteps loud with purpose.

One cold afternoon, a little girl stopped and offered him half her sandwich. He smiled, surprised by how warm that simple kindness felt. For a moment, the bridge didn’t feel so heavy, and the river seemed to hush.

That night, as the city hurried above him, the man held onto the small truth he’d almost forgotten: being unseen wasn’t the same as being gone.
